Unicast, multicast, और broadcast सभी OSI Model की layer-2 और layer-3 पर process होती हैं। ध्यान रहे layer-2 data-link layer होती है जहां Switch Device , machine के MAC addresses का use करके communicate करता है। और layer-3 , network layer है जिसमे Router Device , machine की IP Addresses का use करके communicate करता है।

देखा जाए तो Networking में cast का मतलब होता है की कितनी devices के लिए data send हो रहा है। type के according यह unicast, multicast, या broadcast हो सकता है। ये 3 methods, communication के तरीके हैं जो network में data - packets (Information) send करने के लिए use किये जाते हैं।

What is Unicast ?

Unicast एक one to one data transmission है। Computer networking में Unicast term तब use किया जाता है जब data किसी एक point (node ) से दूसरे point(node) के लिए transmit हो रहा हो। यह one-to-one communication का way है जिसमे कोई 3rd (node) नहीं होती है।

Unicast Example :

Real life example ले , तो जब हम whatsapp / facebook पर किसी single person से बात करते हैं तो वो unicast का एक example ही है। इसी तरह से किसी network में 6 machines (node) एक दूसरे से connected हैं , और node 1 , node 3 से communicate कर रहा हो , तो use unicast कह सकते हैं।

What is Multicast ?

Network में जब data , multiple devices के बीच transmit किया जाता है , तो उसे Multicast कहते हैं। इस तरह का multicast transmission किसी group में data send करने के लिए करते हैं।

यह one-to-many या many-to-many transmission हो सकता है , मतलब किसी local network में data send को किसी एक या एक से ज्यादा source से एक या से ज्यादा destinations पर simultaneously (एक साथ) send किया जा सकता है।

Multicast Example :

Social media जैसे whatsapp / faceook या telegram पर group call / chat भी एक multicast का example है , जहाँ एक साथ एक साथ एक से ज्यादा senders द्वारा एक से ज्यादा recievers को data send कर सकते हैं।

What is Broadcast?

Network में जब data , सभी devices के बीच transmit किया जाता है , तो उसे Broadcast कहते हैं। ध्यान रहे Broadcast में सिर्फ किसी single device द्वारा network में data को सभी devices के बीच transmit किया जाता है।

यह one-to-all transmission method है , मतलब data किसी single device द्वारा ही सभी devices के लिए transmit होगा। broadcast transmission में , जब एक device data की एक copy को send करती है तो send किया जाने वाला data सभी devices के लिए deliver होगा।

Broadcast Example :

Real world में तो broadcasting के कई example हैं जैसे -

1. आप youtube / facebook पर live आकर streaming करते हैं। वो एक broadcast का ही example है जहाँ किसी single source से data को network में available सभी devices के बीच transmit किया जाता है।

2. TV और Radio transmission में भी data को एक source (one point) सभी possible destinations (all points) तक transmit किया जाता है।
